Events & Exhibitions

Artworks by Vicente Pimentel were presented at the exhibition "Paris noir" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, from March 19 to June 30, 2025.

Centre Georges Pompidou, 2025

The Centre Pompidou paid tribute to black artists from the 1950s to the 2000s, with the exhibition "Paris noir", presented from March 19 to June 30, 2025.

At the crossroads of cultures and social and political struggles, Paris welcomed many black artists between the 1950s and 2000s. The Centre Pompidou explored the artistic movements born in this cosmopolitan Paris, with the exhibition Paris noir, from March 19 to June 30, 2025.

That exhibition brought together the works of 150 artists, descendants of Africa or the Americas. The thematic tour revealed an art of identity, new artistic movements, experiments and very varied practices, thus painting a picture of a unique multicultural era and city.

The post-war period in Paris inspired artists and gave rise to new practices. Abstraction, modernism, surrealism, free figure... The paintings and sculptures of African-American, Caribbean and African artists are gradually evolving to enter this modern and post-modern era. In Paris, black artists also invented their own artistic movements, in connection with decolonization and mixed population.

In the context of the Paris Noir exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, that round table celebrated painters born in the Dominican Republic, whose journeys were intimately connected to Paris. Through geographical movements and cultural fusions, their works outline deeply innovative artistic cartographies.
